Tim Pool was the next architect to be appointed, he was with the firm from 1961 until 1967. The first architect to be appointed was Clive Barnby in 1953 and he remained with the firm until 1971. In 1947 a draughtsman, Brian Smith, was appointed by Francis to help him cope with an increasing workload. In the early years there was just Francis and a secretary working at the firm. Based in Bridlington, the office was originally in Manor Street before being moved to its permanent location at Craven House, 16 High Street, in 1940. This reflects the reality of the firm being invited to undertake further projects for the same client. The firm was also known to design its own pieces of furniture and wooden fittings and was commissioned to design individual pieces for the British embassies in Washington, Tokyo and Oslo, and also for Her Royal Highness the Queen.Įach file relates to a specific project and there are sometimes multiple files relating to the same building.
